Andrew Blair, Ph.D. has worked in academia and computer programming. Now retired, he is able to devote a significant amount of time to serving the public interest. A champion of the Open Society and a fan of philosopher John Stuart Mill, Dr. Blair is currently working to defend academic freedom—which is under attack at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, where professor Tony Hall has been targeted by a political witch hunt.
In this interview we compare and contrast Andrew Blair’s philosophical position with that of the Straussian neoconservatives, the suspected intellectual authors of 9/11 and the 9/11 wars, and consider such questions as:
*Is it possible to design institutions that maximize liberty, transparency, and the search for truth?
*If a free academy is indeed such an institution, why is it now under attack?
*Why haven’t academicians been more adamant in defending academic freedom?
*Are the Straussians right in their (covert) argument that atheism necessarily implies moral nihilism?
*Did the Straussian authors of 9/11 and the 9/11 wars really believe that they were bringing democracy to the Middle East? Or, on the contrary, did they consciously set out to destroy the region in service to Israeli expansionism, while mumbling platitudes about democracy to deceive the public?
*And why isn’t George Soros, that self-styled champion of the Open Society, throwing money at the 9/11 truth movement — the most significant ongoing defense of openness against Straussian secrecy and duplicity?
